Today was tough—a scorching 18 kilometers that left me wiped out physically and mentally. Every step felt like a chore, and boredom set in hard.
Thankfully, Cy kept me going, helping to lighten the mood when it all felt a bit much.
We finally made it to Kennedy camp site, where we met David and Heather—a nice pair with a caravan. After a quick chat, we decided to move closer to the Murray River for some privacy and shade. Instead, we found ourselves at a spot full of rocks, sand, giant ants, and almost no shade.
By then, hunger and homesickness hit me like a wave. I couldn’t help but wonder why I was putting Cy and myself through this.
As evening turned to night, the wind picked up and lightning lit the sky. The wind ripped out the tent pegs and we had to clamber out of the tent and pile rocks onto the pegs to keep them in place. Exiting the tent, we came out to a clear sky, and stars came out in full force, it was all so breath taking and these are the moments that made our trip so worthwhile.
I had a massive headache, probably dehydration.
This journey is like life itself: some days are incredible, others are average, and some really push you to your limits. But every day brings its lessons.
